Amazing 3D art

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 31, 2009, 7:18 AM
A small feature with my favorite 3D from fellow deviant artists. I do some 3D myself so it's not this easy to impress me, but from time to time a 3D piece catches my eye and I go :omfg:.
Many here put much effort and even more skill in creating really great art and I think it is time to show off some of the awsome stuff I found while browsing the 3D gallery. Maybe you will also find some of them worth adding to your favorites.

Can I also suggest DD's?

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 18, 2009, 11:45 PM
Many artists ask themself:
"Can I also suggest DD's?
"How do I know an image is good enough for this?"

The answer to the first question about daily deviations is simple.
 "Yes, you can!"
I do it on a regular basis. Most for the 3D gallery since I know this kind of art best. But I suggest also works from other galleries if I am impressed enough. If you are curious how it works technically, it is well explained in the faq behind this [link] if you follow this [link] you can find a very good tutorial and behind this [link] is a great tool which makes DD suggestion very easy.

The second question is much harder and I can only tell you how I choose deviations to suggest.
:tribute: 1. The image has already to look interesting for me as a thumbnail.
:tribute: 2. The image has to be technically good and gives me the impression the artist put more effort then usual in this special picture.
:tribute: 3. It has to impress me enough to be favorited/collected at first sight.
:tribute: 4. The picture tells a story, or got a message, or makes me think.
:tribute: 5. I got the impression quite some other people may like it also. Best is if I think it may meet the taste of the specific gallery director. (this impoves hit rate)
:tribute: 6. I can justify/explain why I choose this specific image.
:tribute: 7. I also like other images of this artist and I think some more attention for her/his works can not hurt.

You see, your work hast to be top quality to be suggested by me. But there are every month some which qualify. Of course not every suggestion is sucessful, but don't let this discourage you. After all you are not the only person who makes suggestions and there are many amazing artists.

Steampunk Feature

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 6, 2009, 2:00 AM
I was browsind DA for some inspiration because of the Steam Punk 3D Competition [link]
I found some really nice pictures so I think it is a good idea to share them with you.
If you know of some more steampunk pictures, please tell me.

Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" of such technology as dirigibles or analog computers; these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or a presumption of functionality.

This is NOT a Photo? OMG!

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 18, 2008, 2:06 PM
Maybe you know this feeling, you see a picture and think "oh this is a nice photograph". Then you have a closer look at it's description and then you are awestruck.
:O You realize you are wrong. :omg: In fact you just spotted an drawing/painting/illustration or something created with 3D software. You look even closer and sometimes you find a small sign that it is painted or rendered, but sometimes not even that. I've collected some works wich come very close to photorealism. There are some artists with impressive technical skills wich make you feel inferior. They put much hard work and often years of expirience in these pieces.
I think they deserve at least a comment or a :+fav: and maybe even more.
