Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (French: Vingt mille lieues sous les mers) was always one of my favorite books.
So I thougt it was time to do a 19th century style submarine. My design is largely influenced by Ictineo II, the first fully functional steam powered submarine built by Narcís Monturiol i Estarriol. Like Captain Nemo's Nautilus it was far ahead of it's time. The anaerobic steam engine was powered by chemicals producing heat and as a byproduct oxygen for breathing. Some info about this ship can be found behind this [link] modelled and rendered in 3dsmax, images put together in photopaint I submitted this to the Steampunk competition of If you are interested to have a look at the other entries please follow this [link] |
